Testimony: Running-Over Blessings
Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. (Luke 6:38)
My name is Rosely. I come from Singapore and I am a volunteer working on the website for “The Promised Land Ministries International.”
Two, three years ago, I made a pledge to give monetary support annually to a seminary institution. Unfortunately, I got laid off from my job last year so I couldn’t give my offering to the seminary institution at the end of last year. Right after the New Year, in my women fellowship group meeting, one of the sisters shared about her father’s generous support of his church. Through her sharing, God reminded me to quickly send out the offering check, but I just simply ignored Him. In the second week of January, I had an interview with a company located near my house. It is an ideal job for me because the commute is so short that I don’t have to worry about making arrangement for dropping off and picking up my sons from school. The interview went very well and I was informed to come back for second interview with the companies’ director and vice president and, I was told that if the second interview goes well, I will be offered the job immediately right after the interview. I was ecstatic about the news and felt that the job was within reach. During this time, God reminded me several times about the offering, but each time, I told God that I was short of money. I will give the money once I find a job and I will soon have a job. In the morning of the day before the second interview, I received a call from the company’s recruiter informing me that the vice president was sick. The interview needed to be rescheduled. I was not too happy about the situation but there was nothing much I can do. In that evening, the recruiter called me again to further postpone the interview to the following week. I almost collapsed from my chair when I received the news. The time between the first and second interviews was about 3 weeks. If the second interview kept getting rescheduled, chances of me getting the job may become slimmer. I began to get worried and felt restless.
Since I didn’t have to prepare for the following day’s interview, I started working on the website for “The Promised Land International Ministries”. While going through the articles in the ministries blog, I happened to read the article “Abundant Blessings” on the teaching of tithing and offering. Initially I felt a pinch in my heart when I was reading it, but that feeling quickly faded away. Few hours later, when I returned from my break to work on the website, I came across sister Yang Liu’s video testimony. In the video, she shared about how God has blessed her and her family abundantly after they have committed to tithing. I felt quit guilty after hearing sister Yang’s testimony and I knew her testimony was a reminder to me from God. I could no longer ignoring God’s message this time so I immediately wrote a check and sent it out. Before sending it, I did exactly what was being taught in the “Abundant Blessings” article. I prayed for God’s blessing and asked God to remember my offering and take care of my daily needs. After sending out the offering, I was confident that my interview would not get postponed again and God would bless me abundantly as He has promised in Malachi 3:10.
The second interview went well, and I received the job offer the following day. The offer package was far exceeding my expectation. The offered salary was more than what I have asked for and the extra amount in salary was few ten folds the amount I have offered to the seminary institution. On top of the salary, there are annual bonus and other great benefits. Praise the Lord. Our Lord is faithful and kind loving. After this incident, I asked God for forgiveness for making Caine like offering in the past. From now on, I will give the type of offering like Abel’s.
After experiencing God’s amazing blessings in job search, my faith has been greatly strengthened and my spiritual eyes have suddenly been opened. In the past, I could hardly get much out of what I was reading from the bible, but now, I discovered that every God’s word is filled with wisdom and power. I was often moved by His word and was in tears while reading the bible. I began to understand what the psalmist has said in Psalm 119:71 “It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I may learn Your status.” I was a hardheaded and prideful woman, and God let me fell hard from high down last year. I lost my marriage and my job, both I thought I could rely on, but God stripped them out of my life and wanted me to learn to trust solely on him. Every single day in the past year, I came to Him for comfort, strength and peace. As a result, not only I have built an intimate relationship with Jesus, but also have developed the habit of writing daily devotional journal.
I was deeply touched by the words in the Ministries’ October 2012 newsletter. It said “God’s will is to change us from the inside out …. we are His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10).” Suddenly, I understood that I was in fact God’s workmanship. God loves me dearly thus He allows me to go through suffering and hardship in life so that I may learn to humble and to trust in Him. He wants to lead me into the Promised Land and let me enjoy His wonderful blessings. Just as what the December 2012 newsletter has mentioned “since God’s plans for us are always for our welfare (Jeremiah 29:11), there are blessings behind everything that the Lord allows to take place in our lives.” Praise the Lord.
